Riders leave the Kinlochleven car park where the Moidart Run starts each

The date will be Thursday, May 2, and it will start and finish at Kinlochleven, take riders on to the Corran ferry and over to the peninsula where a stop will be made at the Devil’s Staircase section of SSDTs long ago.

The run is for any bike up to 1979 and the emphasis is on relaxed enjoyment, old bikes, camaraderie, great scenery, and of course the historic Thursday route of the SSDT in the old days. Stop offs for coffee, lunch and just admiring the scenery.

Though the roads and tracks out on the peninsular are Tarmac these days the event always attracts a good selection of classic comp machines.

Organisers Bob Pearson, Andy Johnstone and John McCrink hope to see you all there for the fourth Moidart Peninsula Motorcycle Road Run and they will of course provide great weather. For entry forms send a large SAE to John McCrink, Braeside Cottage, Grange Road, North Berwick EH39 4QT. Entries are limited and close on Thursday, February 28, 2013 (or when full).

Motorcyclists will benefit from no longer having to provide a motor insurance certificate when buying a tax disc under plans unveiled by Roads Minister Stephen Hammond.

The plans mean that around an extra 600,000 riders and drivers a year will be able to tax their vehicles online.

Mr Hammond said: “We are committed to getting rid of unnecessary red tape. There is absolutely no benefit in making motorists prove they have insurance when they buy a tax disc now that we regularly check existing databases for insurance under Continuous Insurance Enforcement rules.

Database chief executive Ashton West said: “Motor insurance remains a legal requirement and this consultation by DVLA recognises the value and importance of the insurance records held centrally on the MID.

“The introduction of Continuous Insurance Enforcement last year was always designed to provide a more robust and technology driven solution to ensuring that vehicles have insurance in place.”
