Thought I’d show you, and hopefully my fellow readers my newly restored red Suzuki TS250ER 1979 on a V reg. When I was 17-18 years old I loved the Suzuki TS/ER range. I had a TS50ER as my first bike, then passed my test on a TS125ER. Then came a TS185ER. I never had the 250cc, but always fancied one. I had half a dozen road bikes, then cars came along, and bikes went by the wayside. Recently I joined the TRF and began trail riding again on a KTM 250. I then met a member who had a TS250ER in bits in his garage that he’d lost interest in. I agreed a price with him and bought the bike to restore with my youngest son Jack: I couldn’t wait to get started on this.
We spread all of the bits out, and decided what could be restored, and what bits needed replacing. Over the next 18 months, including a short break while Jack revised for his GCSEs, we have rebuilt the bike to almost new condition.
The frame and some black bits were powder-coated, paintwork professionally sprayed, new decals etc. and some new and used bits purchased. The engine was rebuilt, gearbox was fine: new fork seals, various bearings etc. The exhaust was rebuilt with a new header from a company in New Zealand!
The wheels were in quite good condition and now have Bridgestone Trail wing tyres on them. It’s 36 years years since I last rode a TS/ER so you can imagine the smile on my face as I ride it!
