In the spotlight: BSA Owners’ Club

Sometimes we think we know what a club is all about, but often it’s not so obvious, so we asked the BSAOC some searching questions to find out what is really going on!

Who Are We?

The BSA Owners’ Club is a global network of people of all ages who share an interest and a passion for BSA Motorcycles, including the new models now in production. The “Mother Ship” is the UK Club with about 4,000 members and growing all the time. The Club was founded in 1958 with support and guidance from the BSA Factory. Over the following few years the number of local Branches grew, The Star magazine was launched and owners elected a National Committee of Volunteers to pull it all together and organise events. A set of guidelines was agreed, with some basic rules included, based on common sense. With minor updates, the same Members’ Handbook is still in use today. New Groups and Branches are encouraged to share the joy with members old and new.

Branches have regular meetings to suit their members and most organise a weekend camp during the Summer. Tents, caravans and camper vans all make an appearance at Branch camps and at the National Rally, which includes an Open Day that is free for all motorcycles and all motorcyclists on all makes and ages of bikes.

Global Reach

There are also BSA Owners’ Clubs in most countries, some have more than one and in each case they are organised to work within their domestic rules and legislation. All BSAOC Members are welcome at every BSA Owners’ Event everywhere and each year a different country takes a turn at organising an International Event, usually a week long and open to the worldwide membership. Informal travel to meet friends just happens! BSAOC is especially delighted to have been closely involved with the revival of the BSA Company and the specification and launch of the new BSA range. “The bikes BSA would be building today, had production continued.” A tremendous achievement by the equally passionate new owners of the company.

Who Are The Members?

BSAOC Members are as varied as we can be. Male, female, young, old, riders, pillion riders, family members all sharing a common interest in and more often a passion for BSA motorcycles. We fix, service and restore our BSAs to riding condition. For some, it’s important to recreate the showroom condition, for others oily rag is the standard and there are Members who seek “alternative originality”, with abandoned, or worn out bikes returned to a roadworthy state by collecting age appropriate parts that were “originally on another”. Most if not all are then ridden regularly. Members fully understand that BSAs were always built to be easily maintained and used and passed on to new owners.

BSA Owners’ Club Members are all friendly and helpful and good humoured, wherever in the world you meet us.
